RAY LINE
Ray Brothers (Ireland to SC)
James Ray abt. 1828, Thomas Jefferson Ray abt. 1829,
John David Ray abt. 1830 Ireland
Much research needs to be done for this line so I do not have much information to share. The closest Y-DNA match to our line is at the Y-67 marker level, and he shares the same surname. We have researched his line and cannot find a connection. We will keep trying.
Beyond that, being of Irish descent, there are countless BigY matches, all with surnames other than Ray. Considering the difficulties with genealogical research in Ireland, it is our hope to have closer Y-DNA matches, specifically BigY-700 matches, in the future. A great BigY-700 match could be the key for finding the parents of our Ray siblings and could bring this SNP Path into more relevant genealogical time frame.

From Y-DNA testing, we do know that our Ray line descends from Niall of the Nine Hostages. At least, our Ray tester received a badge for this honor. However, there is much controversy over the existence of this person. Here is an article written about a genetic study conducted at Trinity College Dublin. A simple Google search will provide many theories about who this man was actually.
On My Heritage, our Ray cousin has about 45 DNA matches with people who were born in Ireland. This is promising.
Thanks for taking the time to read this. I will add more pertinent information as it becomes available. Let me know if you’d like to collaborate. Any help with research efforts would be greatly appreciated. I’d be happy to answer any questions you may have. And, don’t forget to ask your Ray cousins if they would be willing to take a Y-DNA test! I’m willing to cover the cost for some of these tests.
